Benefits

Benefits of Fireproofing

  • Stop a Fire in its Tracks – By using fire stopping measures in a building, it works to prevent the fire from spreading to other locations in your structure.
  • Stand Up to the Heat – Fireproofing a building increases the time that it can spend in the heat and increases the temperatures it’s able to hold up to.
  • Protect Your Assets – If a fire ever does occur, fireproofing ensures that the damage is minimal so it can be repaired easier.
  • Increase Building Value – When buying and selling a building, hearing that it’s fireproofed is music to someone’s ears. People will gladly pay more for a protected structure.
  • More Safety, Lower Premiums – Insurance won’t be nearly as high because the potential risk of damage is a lot lower in a fireproofed home or building.

FAQ – Fireproofing and Firestopping

If you are new to fireproofing, you may have a few questions on our Floor Technologies services. Read about the most common questions below and click to get a free quote for your project when you’re ready.

Fireproofing is the method of spraying down or painting more combustible materials in your structure with a fire resistant coating.

Firestopping on the other hand is applied particularly to the entrances and exits of a room in an attempt to contain hypothetical fires to one area. By firestopping, the goal is to make sure the fire doesn’t escape into the rest of the building.

Given enough time and hot enough temperatures, anything can be at risk for combustion. However, by having Floor Technologies fireproof your structure with cement-like, fibrous material, your building can withstand longer amounts of time in the heat at higher temperatures without succumbing to the elements. By adding fireproof protection, it creates a more fire resistant barrier between the structural components of your building and the flames. That way, if a fire does ever occur, your building has a higher likelihood of remaining standing by the time the fire is controlled. With fireproofing precautions in place, there will be far less damage to your building and the repairs will be less costly if it happens.

The actual fireproofing process with our Floor Technologies team should only take around 4-5 days for most projects, but it could take a little longer for bigger projects. After the initial application, it takes around 14-28 days to fully cure.

On one hand, fireproofing is an extra expense and takes more time. On the other hand, your building has a higher chance of remain structurally sound if there’s ever a fire. While fireproofing is an investment, it’s well worth it to take preventative measures for your project to prevent a huge rebuild later on if the worst ever happens.

The one disadvantage to fireproofing is that it takes a while to fully cure. Many sprays take between 15 and 28 days to cure. However, this is a much smaller chunk of time in comparison to expensive repairs that may occur with fire damage. In the long run, the time is worth it to increase the value and protection of your structure.
